The Right Choice For Your Dog's Tick & Flea Protection #12Bravecto

Ticks don't go away when Summer ends.  In fact, in many areas of the country Fall is peak time for both Ticks and Fleas!

Ticks don't go away when Summer ends!  Choose the right tick protection for your dog.

Even dogs who aren't active outdoor types are still at risk of being exposed to ticks.  A short walk in the park, around the block or a quick potty break in the yard can put your dog at risk of getting a tick!  Dogs still need tick and flea control.  Choosing the right tick and flea protection for your dog is important.

I can hardly begin to describe how disgusting it is when you find a tick on your precious pooch.  It sends a shiver down your spine!  I found a tick on Icy a few months ago, and I was not only horrified but I felt guilty at having failed to protect her against this disgusting parasite.  You can read more about poor Icy's tick incident here.

Imagine how sickening it was to find this blood sucking tick on my sweet dog's neck!

Ticks aren't just disgusting looking creatures, they carry diseases that can be harmful to your pet - and to you!  Educate yourself on what kind of ticks are in your area and what diseases your dog could be exposed to on MyPet.com's WHAT'S THAT TICK? page on their web site.

Your dog doesn't have to be the super active outdoor type to be at risk for ticks and fleas.  If your dog can get ticks and fleas right in your own yard or during a short walk, imagine how easy it is for ticks and fleas to latch on to a dog that swims, hikes, or walks through the woods or open fields!

All dogs need protection against ticks, no matter how much time they spend outdoors or how active they are.  BRAVECTO® (Fluralaner) is a tasty chew that provides 12 week protection against ticks and fleas*

BRAVECTO is:

> Fast acting, starts killing fleas within 2 hours and kills 100% of fleas in 12 hours

Easy and convenient to use.  1 tasty chew provides up to 12 weeks of flea and tick protection*

> FDA approved and only available by prescription.  BRAVECTO is only approved for dogs 6 months and older since it's prescribed based on weight and puppies under 6 months grow so quickly their weights change too much over the 12 week treatment period.

*BRAVECTO kills fleas, prevents flea infestations, and kills ticks (black-legged tick, American dog tick, and brown dog tick) for 12 weeks. BRAVECTO also kills lone star ticks for 8 weeks.

After your dog has been outside, even if only for a short while, do a thorough check for ticks.  Run your hands through your dog's fur backwards, spreading the fur so you can see all the way down to the skin.  It's easier to see ticks on smooth coated dogs, but still run your hands along their entire body to feel for ticks.  Pay particular attention to their ears and paws.

When I volunteered at the shelter, lots of dogs came in with ticks.  The majority of the time the ticks were inside the dogs ears and on the bottom of their paws, mainly between their toes.  Visit MyPet.com's web site for tips on Checking For and Removing Ticks.

Icy loves a good roll in the grass. Ticks and fleas love the grass as much as your dog does.  Even a quick roll in the grass with your favorite stick can expose you to ticks and fleas!

Oh wow, that is pretty disgusting. Glad you were able to get it out. We also use Bravecto and love how easy it is to just give him the chew once every three months!

I love the idea of a chewable - so much easier than topical prevention! Henry doesn't like having his feet touched, so checking him there might be a bit tricky.

Do you know if they have a similar product for cats?

ick ticks are so icky im so glad Bravecto has put a end to those nasty bugs!

Prevention is far better than the consequences! Many years ago, our cat Onyx got bitten by a few ticks and was lucky to recover from the paralysis.

The weather stays pretty warm here in Texas, so we have ticks, fleas, flies, spiders, etc., most of the year!

Our current pup, a service dog in training, is on Bravecto year round.

Those pesky little critters give me the creeps! You are right they do carry disease for both dogs and people. My husband was bitten by a tick several years ago and contracted Lyme Disease. He's fine now, but very scary. I know Lyme is common in dogs, too, so we are always very careful.

Mr. N has only gotten one on a hike but I've heard of people getting them in their yards around here.

I've still got my dog on Braveco, even into the fall months. We've got ticks like crazy here especially in the deeply wooded areas where my little monster runs off leash. Yes, he's gotta run....

Ew ticks are so nasty. Good to know that there are good products out there to keep them at bay!

Thank you for this information. Im definitely going to see if i can order this or get it in India. we have other brands here but do need something far better

With Cookie having had a bad reaction to one of these things, I'm still on the fence not knowing which I consider worse - the ticks or the preventives.

BLACH! Ticks are nasty. That is a great point about 'tick season' varying depending where you are.

So glad your dog stays protected all year long! It is so important!

Ticks and fleas are nasty. Luckily they stay away from Dexter. :)

I hate ticks! They are very prevalent here in the summer and fall. A few years ago I spent a couple of hours out in the woods and found 3 small ticks on my shoulders when I took a shower. Thankfully, they hadn't attached themselves. I keep my dogs protected and I love the opossum that we see in the woods. I just found out that opossums eat ticks! I'm glad that Bravecto is working for your dogs.

I hate ticks and fleas- disgusting and dangerous. I assumed they went away in Fall - yikes I better do more research.

Bravecto sounds like it is some powerful stuff! I like that it can bring relief so quickly. Luckily, my kitties have not had to deal with fleas or ticks. I have had dogs in the past that have, though! It is never a pleasant experience. Thank goodness for good preventatives!

This is very timely as Tick season has just commenced here in Australia. Thanks for this info... especially as Tick seasons seem to be going for longer for all of us around the world!

Sweet Purrfections said...

I hope I don't have to deal with ticks on the girls.

Great post! I plan on using this flea/tick preventative for next season. Until then, we'll be finishing up our current supply. Thanks for sharing how important it is to maintain protection year-round.

We love BRAVECTO! Sorry about the tick incident (I sped past that pic, EW!). Hope you don't have to go through finding another like that anytime soon!

We are 100% Bravecto here now. Bailie may have contracted a tick disease before she switched last month and it was really scary. Nothing is 100% coverage, but we feel super safe with Bravecto! Nice post.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

No they do not have a product for cats unfortunately. I hope they will one day but it doesn't appear to be in their plans.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Isn't it wonderful, I love how easy & convenient it is!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

So much easier! I hated those messy, oily topicals!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

They are super icky!!

Omg ticks are the most disgusting thing ever!!!!

Ahh I hate fleas and ticks! I'll have to look into so Bravecto.

DawgBlogger said...

I hate ticks. I hate chemicals too, though. So far we only found the odd tick and no fleas. When we tried tick preventive on Cookie, she had an adverse reaction to it. So unless the status quo changes, we'll stick with screening and manual removal when we do find the odd tick.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

I'm sorry to hear that Cookie had adverse reactions to flea/tick meds. Such a sweetie. When you can't use medications you have to be hyper-vigilant in checking manually each time your pets goes out.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

They are the Worst! I'm so glad I found Bravecto.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Aren't they?? I was so horrified when Icy had one early in the Summer. I had never found a tick on any of my dogs before.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

I remember you saying that, poor Bailie! So scary.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

I love it too! I can't even believe that happened, it can just sneak up on you if you're not so careful to keep up with flea/tick protection.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Thanks Bryn, I'm glad you liked it! So sorry for this late response, I lapsed a bit keeping up on comments - shame on me!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

I hope so too! They might be hard to spot in all that thick, gorgeous white fur they have!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

I know right?! It's getting worse around here (Northeastern US) for sure. We have lots more deer than before so I'm wondering if that may have something to do with it.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

It's the Best! I just wish they made it for cats, but I don't believe they plan to come out with that anytime soon unfortunately.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Nope! They do not take a holiday in Fall, in fact Fall is peak flea/tick season here in the Northeastern US.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

WOW, 3 ticks on you in just a few hours?! That's incredible, it must be infested where you went. I didn't know opossums eat ticks, what an interesting fact! We had one that came into our yard but Icy scared him off and now he doesn't come around anymore. I must have a chat with little Icy, LOL!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

SO nasty! You're lucky Dexter hasn't had an issue yet, keep your eyes open though, they're sneaky little buggers.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Me too! Yes, it's critical.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Aren't they the worst!? Yes, tick season can vary. In the Northeaster U.S. people think Fall, cool weather, so no ticks but WRONG!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

I know what you mean. You have to really research, find out the best and most current meds & most importantly discuss with your Veterinarian what the best approach is for the individual pet.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

I hope you can get it in India. Merck is the pharma company that makes it, they're huge and global. They also make Veterinary medications.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

They've gotten better over the years, Bravecto is fairly new & pretty cutting edge.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Same here, lots of woodsy areas. I use flea/tick preventative all year round too. I swear, one warm day in Winter & every bug on the planet comes out!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Ticks can be anywhere. Also, where you see white tail deer you'll probably see lots of ticks.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

OMG, I'm so sorry your husband had to go through Lyme Disease! That is a nasty ailment. I'm careful too, I only messed up that one time when we moved & I must have missed a does - that's when Icy got a tick!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Ugh! I'm so glad you're using Bravecto too, we must protect our pups but especially service pups! They've got an important job to do & can't take a sick day for a nasty tick.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

It sure is! It's worth the money & the little time it takes to keep up with Bravecto. I'm so sorry about Onyx, that's so awful. Thank goodness he recovered! Poor kitty.

FiveSibesMom said...

Oh, ticks...nasty little critters. And not easy to detect in a Husky, are they?! We do use a monthly topical, but this one does sound very good! Thanks for the great review!
