JOINT SUPPLEMENTS FOR DOGS

My Siberian Husky, Icy, is 13 years old now and has been experiencing some arthritis. Several months ago we noticed she was very stiff when she got up in the morning and after napping or laying down for awhile. She was limping intermittently as well, especially first thing in the morning. I started considering joint supplements for dogs.

JOINT SUPPLEMENTS FOR DOGS CAN EASE ARTHRITIS PAIN

Once Icy got up and moved around a bit, she'd work the stiffness out and be able to move fairly well. However, I could see she was in discomfort and I didn't want her to have to live with joint pain or discomfort every day. I was also worried that her arthritis would get worse and she would lose mobility.

I took my dog to our Veterinarian and had a discussion about her showing signs of arthritis and clearly being in pain and discomfort on a daily basis.

ADDING JOINT HEALTH SUPPLEMENTS TO YOUR DOG'S ROUTINE

Arthritis is a common dog health issue, especially in senior dogs. We discussed adding joint health supplements to my dog's daily routine. My Vet recommended what she felt was one of the best joint supplements for dogs. She told me that it usually takes a few weeks for dog hip and joint supplements to show an improvement in dogs' arthritis symptoms.

I know that two of the most important ingredients in a joint supplement for dogs are Glucosamine and Chondroitin. The supplements our Veterinarian recommended had a lot of Glucosamine and a good amount of Chondroitin. I thought we were on the right path to get my dog some relief from Arthritis pain.

I followed the usage and dosage instructions carefully. I used the entire bag of chewable supplements, which lasted about 3 - 4 weeks, but they did absolutely Nothing for my dog! I was so disappointed. I couldn't believe these supposedly great dog joint supplements with all the right ingredients didn't make one bit of difference in my dog's arthritis symptoms.

DOG JOINT SUPPLEMENTS WORK, BUT FIND THE ONE THAT'S RIGHT FOR YOUR DOG

I wouldn't give up though. I searched on my own for another brand of joint supplements for my dog. I decided to troll the local pet supply stores, looking for another brand of supplements for her. I studied brands, talked to store employees, and scrutinized the ingredients lists on several packages. I researched dog joint supplements online as well.

Well & Good Joint Supplements for Dogs

While in a Petco store, I came upon a brand of supplements called Well & Good. I had never heard of this brand of dog supplements but I liked what I saw in the ingredients list. And honestly, they were on sale so I decided to give them a try. These joint supplements for dogs are available in 3 different levels. I got the highest level for my dog, which contains 500mg of Glucosamine and 400mg of Chondroitin.

Within a week I saw a marked difference in my dog's mobility! I really couldn't even believe it. I later found out that Well & Good is a brand that is actually owned by Petco, which gave me a lot of confidence.

It's been nearly 4 months of giving her the Well & Good joint supplements every day. I'm on my third bottle of these supplements and Icy's joint issues are practically gone! She gets up easily in the morning, after naps, and after long walks. She isn't stiff or in pain - she is fine! We haven't seen any signs of joint pain, discomfort, or difficulty getting up, using stairs, or walking. I can't tell you how that makes my heart sing!

It just goes to show you that sometimes you need to try more than one product to see which one will be right for your dog's health. No two dogs are exactly alike.

Paying attention to Joint health in dogs, especially senior dogs, and addressing issues early is important for good dog care. If you think your dog is experiencing joint pain, or may have arthritis, have a discussion with your Veterinarian sooner rather than later. You don't want the issue to progress, potentially causing your dog to lose mobility.

Discuss treatment options with your Vet. If the first option your Vet recommends doesn't help your dog, ask about other options. There are several ways to deal with a dog's arthritis symptoms. You just need to find the right option for your particular dog.

This is terrific information! I haven't heard of this brand either. I bet I know the exact brand your vet recommend though. It's most likely the one that Henry's vet recommended. While Henry isn't stiff or seems in pain, he stretches a heck of a lot when he gets up, which the vet says is an indication of arthritis. I'll look for this one. It's good to know too that Petco puts these on sale periodically. Great for you being so persistent! I'm sharing this article with all my dog parents.

You are so right about joint supplements. For dogs and cats they can enhance the mobility of a senior so much, and make life much better.

I am so glad you found one that works for Icy. I know sometimes we need to try different supplements because all fo our pets are different.

Enjoy life Icy!

Joint supplements can make a big difference to a pet's life. Seriously they can. I know that our Harvey was transformed by a joint supplement with New Zealand green lipped mussel so I never dismiss suggestions they work.
