Stop Fleas In Their Tracks With BRAVECTO #12Bravecto

Few things strike fear in the hearts of pet owners like discovering a Flea Infestation in their home!  Spotting a few fleas on your dog is just the tip of the iceberg.  It usually means there are many more hiding under your dog's fur, and quite possibly in your carpet, pet bedding or furniture.  Fast acting, effective flea prevention is essential to protect your home from a full blown flea infestation.

Finding a few fleas on your dog usually means there are many more hiding deep in his fur!

There are 4 stages in the Flea Lifecycle: EGG, LARVA, PUPA, and ADULT

A Flea population consist of about 50% eggs, 35% larvae, 10% pupae, and 5% adults.  By the time you see fleas on your pet they are already in their most advanced stage of life.   Many more eggs, larvae, and pupae will soon become adult fleas.  This viscous cycle will continue unless you break it with fast acting, effective flea control!

Your dog loves the great outdoors, but so do FLEAS and TICKS!

If you consider the 4 stages in the Flea Lifecycle, you can see how easy it is for a flea infestation to occur without proper flea prevention and control.

Stage 1: EGG
The adult female flea lays eggs after having a blood meal from a mammal such as your dog.  Blood is necessary for the adult flea to reproduce.  The eggs are tiny white particles, laid in the dog’s fur in batches of 20 or more eggs.  An adult flea can lay up to 40 eggs per day.

As your pet moves around, eggs drop off and are distributed around the environment.  This is how fleas end up being present not just on your dog but in bedding, carpet, and furniture.

The eggs will hatch in anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks, depending on the temperature.  The warmer it is the faster they'll hatch!

 Stage 2: LARVA
Once the eggs hatch they are in the Larva stage of their lifecycle.    Larvae are approximately 1/8 inch long, white and do not have legs.  They are also blind.

Larvae feed on the pre-digested dried blood and other organic material passed by adult fleas.  You can sometimes see these tiny black specs (flea poop) on your pet’s fur, commonly known as “flea dirt".

Stage 3: PUPA
At one to three weeks of age the Larvae will pupate, creating silky cocoons leading to the next lifecycle stage, the Pupa stage.  The Pupae remain ensconced and protected in their cocoons, waiting until they sense that a viable host is near before the adult flea will emerge.  They “sense” a host through vibrations, heat, and carbon dioxide

The sticky Cocoons may be buried deep in carpeting, bedding, or in your pet’s fur while they wait to emerge to wreak havoc on your household!

Stage 4: ADULT
Once the adult flea emerges from it's cocoon it must begin feeding very quickly.  Once it feeds, the adults flea will mate and females will begin laying eggs right away.  Adult fleas typically live anywhere from a few weeks to several months and will spend most of their time feeding off your pet's blood and reproducing.

> If you see 10 fleas on your dog, there may likely be 40 or more hiding!

> With 40 fleas there are probably approximately 80 pupae (cocoons), 280 larvae, and 400 flea eggs hiding in carpet, bedding and furniture!

That's a LOT of potential adult fleas just waiting for their turn to snack on your dog!

As you can see, the flea lifecycle continues to repeat and can quickly get out of control unless you STOP it with adequate flea prevention and control.  It's important to continue flea prevention and control regularly throughout the year, never missing a dose, to keep fleas under control.

Fleas would be a nightmare! I hate knowing that so few can make so many! That's gross. ☺

We don't use this particular product, but I really appreciate the information you've shared! There's nothing worse than flea & ticks!!!

I'm itchy just thinking about fleas! Thankfully we haven't had to experience a flea infestation and hopefully never will! At the advice of my vet, this year is the first year we have introduced Bravecto as part of Edie's health maintanance

Hmmmmnnn, need to look into this. In Texas, fleas are nearly a year-round problem. Thanks for the info!

and there's me thinking fleas were a cat problem! Wrong eh? Keeping clean and tidy is key to keeping them at bay isn't it. I like the idea of "one treat to rule them all" - a lot easierr than drops or sprays.

I love the photographs!!!

Fleas DO strike fear in my heart! I've thankfully never had any issues (knock on wood). We currently use a topical flea and tick product from our vet but a simple pill sounds much easier! - Rochelle BaRoss

I would love to try these chews, but they are not yet available in Belgium :( ! I use spot on liquids for the moment!! And I have to say, up till today, I haven't had a flea manifestation in my house! Haha! Pippa did have a tick a few weeks ago!

I'll have to talk to my vet about this. I definitely do NOT want a flea outbreak. Yuck! Thanks for the great information.

So glad your dog can enjoy the outdoors free from worry about fleas and ticks!

Fleas are so yucky! Even though we don't go outside, Lexy had fleas on her once.

Fleas make me go yuck. We have been so diligent about them and I love your plan of attack against the little buggers!

Fleas are rotten. I'm glad you found something to help prevent your dogs from getting them.

Fleas are the worst. Shermie has a flea allergy and one bite really sets him off. Hoping the flea season is wrapping up since he's super sensitive. We also have him on monthly prevention! So important folks have their animals protected.

I'm telling my family and friends who are owned by dogs about this.

Knock wood, we've been lucky to never have an issue. I'm super diligent about brushing them out after walks, using a natural bug spray and doing routine flea checks.

Fleas are so disgusting. I do checks all the time and so far so good. I plan to ask when I next take KPug to the vet. Thanks for the great info.

Thanks for sharing this helpful information! We had a flea conundrum last year even with diligent application of preventatives! This is nice to know about as a different alternative to try!

LOL, that is too funny Juliet!

I'm glad you found the information helpful. It was very eye opening to research the flea lifecycle, now I see why fleas can get out of control so quickly

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Ha, Ha it makes me itchy too! I plan to never have to deal with a flea infestation either by protecting my pets! I'm so glad your Vet recommended Bravecto for you!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Yes, they can be year round in many climates. They can even live indoors for a long time in cooler climates. I love that this is a delicious chew you only have to give once every 12 weeks.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Fleas like to snack on both dogs and cats! Yes, keeping clean is so important but it's not enough you need protection too. Bravecto is only approved for dogs, not the kitties. )-:

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Fleas are such hateful buggers! Topicals can be messy and my dogs hate when I give it to them. They love a tasty chew though, they think it's a treat!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Thank Dog you haven't had a flea problem! Ticks are so nasty, I'm glad Bravecto protects against both fleas & ticks. I hope Bravecto will be available in Belgium too some day, so much easier than topicals.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Definitely ask your Vet about Bravecto, it's so easy & convenient. Having fleas bites, you don't want that!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Yes, whether in the yard or out on the trails hiking fleas & ticks are always a concern. We need protection all year round.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Oh wow, it's interesting how fleas show up even indoors. They really are so gross!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

They make me go yuck too! I have been lucky never to have a flea problem, I'm always concerned about protection against fleas & ticks.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

So rotten! Yes, Bravecto is very effective against fleas and ticks.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Oh poor Shermie! A flea allergy, that must be so difficult. I use flea/tick protection all year round as fleas can often live indoors during cooler weather.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

It's a great product. It's only approved for dogs, unfortunately not the kitties. I hope one day they'll make a Bravecto chew for kitties too.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Checks and natural products are nice but you need to do them so often it's easy to forget. A month flies by so fast!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

They are awful and so are ticks! Protection is so important, definitely talk to your Vet about Bravecto. Fleas & ticks can be a problem almost all year, even in cold climates.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Oh, that must have sucked! That is so scary that you used a preventative and still had a flea issue. You really can't miss even one month of preventative meds, the nasty buggers can sneak right in!
